Lea’s Part in the Primary Program

September 21st, 2008

Lea told her Mom that she could say her part in the program, which was “My body is a temple”.  She did it, then Lea told Jessica that she could say it backwards.  Impressed, Jessica said go ahead.  Lea turned around (so her back was facing her mom) and said “My body is a temple”.

As a side note, Lea wouldn’t say the line during the program, she was to shy.

Jessica’s Weekly Update

August 24th, 2008

Dear Family,

I have been hit and miss at writing lately.  We finished summer vacation and started school week since I wrote last.

Our fun activity last week was to go swimming at the local water park.  Clara was tall enough to ride the “big” water slides.  She had a great time.  Her goal is to swim well enough to ride the fast ones that go into the deep pool next year.  They have plenty of slides for little kids too and so everyone enjoyed the day.  The next day the girls got to have a big slumber party with their church friends.

Our big project last week was to move Marianne into Emma’s room.  Emma has had her own room for the last 9-10 months.  We bought Emma a used water bed and she and Marianne are now sharing.  Clara and Lea are sharing the bunk beds and we moved out the toddler bed.  Lea is happy to be in a big bed.  Over all it has worked out.  Emma’s biggest complaint is that Marianne wakes her up every time she is up in the night (she woke me up too to tell me when she lost her tooth.)  Last night it was a lot since she’d slept most of Saturday.

This week everyone but Lea started school.  She wanted to as well but will have to be content with preschool next month.  Everyone is doing well with their new classes.  Clara really likes her teacher.  She was a bit worn out (and getting sick) by the end of the week and didn’t really want to go but did any way.

Marianne enjoys her class.  She has some of the new friends she made last year in her class again.  The teacher is fairly new and fun.  Emma survived middle school.  She was only last once because she forgot a few things and went to her locker 3 times.  Her locker is very hard to open and it got stuck on the last trip!  They didn’t count tardies this week so she wasn’t too worried.  I think she’s going to wear her watch now so she knows how much time she has.  She has enjoyed the classes and hasn’t had too much homework yet.

They were all sick by the end of the week.  Clara caught a cold (I think from her cousins).  Emma and Marianne also came home sick on Friday.  They have had headaches and a fever, I think from activity days.  Emma is now catching the cold L, from her sis.  Hopefully they’ll be ready for school again after a weekend of rest.

Lea and Mom had a quiet week at home.  I did some sewing and yard work and a little cleaning.  My goal is to get the basement cleaned up (and out) one section at a time.  We did the easiest first.  Lea was a great helper.  By Thursday she was missing her sisters and wanted some playmates.  She said lots of funny things.  We put some of them on the blog page.  www.jessica.maughanster.com

Anthony survived another week of work. He spent the whole week in Kansas City.  He has traveled the last 4 weeks in a row.  He is looking for a new job.  His company is selling one of their products and making a lot of changes.  He was starting to feel sick today.  I hope he gets a short version of the girls flu bug.

I hope you all have great week.  Congrats to Zach.  I hope your birthday and baptism was great!

Love,

School is back in style!

August 17th, 2008

Well the girls are pretty excited for school.  This year Jessica gave them a budget and let them pick thier own outfits.  Emma did pretty well.  Lea has decided that her birthday was tomorrow, and she’s going to school tomorrow.  She still runs the house for the most part.  Jessica is considering going back to work as a substitute, but found the process a little daunting.  I’m sure she’ll do fine.  My friend Kirk had his baby this weekend, which is great fun for him.  It does mean I’m back on Cerner stuff, which is not so fun for me.  I’m sure I’ll survive.

Lea’s Wisdom

August 16th, 2008

Last night we decided to stop and get some family ice cream.  Dad teased the girls like normal, but Lea took the night with her pearls of wisdom:

When Dad asked her if she thought Ben was cute she said

“No, I don’t want my boyfriend to be cute”.

Later, as she was sucking down her strawberry shake, she decided she would rather have had a M&M shake, but then she said:

“No, I should have just got both.  Mom, next time we go there can I get both?”
